'Voices for Woogaroo' - Expert Open Letter

A global coalition of more than 300 experts from across 11 countries have signed an Expert Open Letter formally asking Federal Environment Minister Murray Watt to protect, in entirety, Woogaroo Forest, for future generations. 

Signatories include:

• Hon. Robert Hill AC, the former Federal Environment Minister who introduced the EPBC Act itself - the same law now being called upon to protect this forest; 
• Professor Emerita Carmen Lawrence AO, former Premier of Western Australia; 
• Professor Hugh Possingham FAA FRS, co-author of the EPBC Act and one of Australia's most distinguished conservation scientists;
• Professor Carlos Afonso Nobre, Earth System scientist, co-chair of the Science Panel for the Amazon, and member of both the US National Academy of Sciences and the UK's Royal Society;
• Professor Michael E. Mann, Presidential Distinguished Professor of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Pennsylvania.

They are joined by more than 300 scientists, legal academics, medical professionals, Indigenous leaders and community representatives from across Australia and around the world.

The Expert Open Letter and an accompanying Community Petition of more than 21,500 signatures were formally presented to Minister Murray Watt on the 23rd of June, 2026.
